Old Margate stayed on the walls.

When Café Darcy took over the old Kalli’s café, the black-and-white photographs of old Margate stayed. They were reframed and hung back up.

Darren

Two brothers, one café on Marine Gardens.

Kevin and Darren Barrett have both worked in catering since they were sixteen — pubs, hotels, and four years as the caterers at a golf club. In 2018 they took on the old Kalli’s café in Margate and opened it as Café Darcy.

1974→2018

The first new look in forty-four years.

When the Barrett brothers took on 21 Marine Gardens, the café hadn’t been refurbished since 1974. They rebuilt the kitchen, added a new back area and redecorated the room, working evenings through January. Café Darcy opened that February.
